Our Curriculum
Science
At Oakworth Primary, we strive to ignite a lifelong curiosity and passion for science in every child. Our vibrant and inclusive science curriculum inspires pupils to ask thoughtful questions, explore the world around them, and develop a genuine respect for all living things and the environment.
Through practical, hands-on experiences and a carefully sequenced progression of knowledge, our pupils gain a strong understanding of key scientific concepts. They learn how to observe closely, carry out investigations, and explain their findings with growing confidence and clarity. Scientific enquiry and 'Working Scientifically' skills are woven throughout all learning, encouraging children to think critically and develop resilience as young scientists.
Our unique local surroundings provide rich opportunities for outdoor learning and discovery. Whether exploring habitats and seasonal changes in Key Stage 1, or investigating forces, the human body, and electricity in Key Stage 2, pupils build on their learning year after year, making meaningful links and applying their knowledge to real-life situations. The inclusion of scientific visitors and science-based trips into our curriculum enables our children to see science in action, inspiring and enthusing our children to pursue science pathways in education and careers beyond that at Oakworth.
