At Oakworth Primary School, our Geography curriculum is designed to help pupils develop a clear understanding of the world around them—locally, nationally, and globally. Through thoughtfully planned lessons and practical activities, children learn how people, places, and environments are connected and constantly changing.

Building on the foundations from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), our Geography curriculum in Key Stages 1 and 2 aims to inspire curiosity, encourage critical thinking, and support pupils in understanding both current and historical geographical events. We make full use of the wonderful landscapes surrounding our school, which enrich pupils’ learning experiences. From exploring the local area in Year 1, to studying rivers and settlements in Year 3, and comparing global geography in Upper Key Stage 2, the natural environment plays a key role in our teaching.

Geography at Oakworth is closely linked with outdoor learning and educational visits, fostering exploration, resilience, and a deeper appreciation of the diverse world we live in.
