Attendance & Holidays in Term Time
Attendance at Oakworth Primary School
At Oakworth Primary School, we take great pride in our excellent attendance. We believe that strong attendance and punctuality are key to every child’s success. We encourage all pupils to aim for 100% attendance to make the most of their learning opportunities and reach their full potential.
The school day begins promptly, with doors opening at 8:45am. Doors close at 8:55am, and learning begins immediately.
Research shows that pupils with excellent attendance not only achieve more academically, but also develop stronger social skills. We work in close partnership with parents to help children understand the value of regular attendance—laying the foundation for future success in secondary school, further education, and the workplace.
Pupil attendance is closely monitored. Unexplained absences and attendance that falls below our minimum expectation it will be followed up. Where concerns arise, we will arrange a meeting between home and school to agree on actions and support.
If your child is unwell or unable to attend school, including for medical reasons, we ask that you follow our absence reporting procedures. If there are any circumstances that may affect your child’s ability to attend, please contact us as soon as possible so we can offer support, including making reasonable adjustments to help your child attend regularly.
Holidays during term-time
Please note that holidays during term-time will only be authorised in highly exceptional circumstances, and unauthorised holidays will be recorded as unauthorised absence. We ask that parents check our term dates page carefully before booking any holidays. If you would like to read more about our approach to attendance, please see our attendance policy.
Reporting Absence
Pupils who are unwell should not be sent to school. Parents are asked to inform school by 9.00 a.m. if their child is not attending. In cases of sickness/diarrhoea, pupils should remain at home for 48 hours after the last bout of illness.
