Maths at Oakworth
Here at Oakworth Primary School, the teaching of Maths is based on the National Curriculum and is supported by the West Yorkshire Maths Hub scheme of learning, the calculation policy and Oakworth's mental maths policy. This approach has a big emphasis on reasoning and problem solving which allows our children to achieve mastery in maths. Throughout their learning, children are encouraged to use mathematical vocabulary which is developed throughout their time at Oakworth Primary School. During their learning all children are encouraged to use materials, such as Base 10, place value counters, numicon, straws and measurement equipment. This helps to develop their understanding around a concept as well as creating ‘models and images’ to consolidate their understanding. Money raised from the school’s Summer Fayre has contributed to the purchase of new resources and equipment to support children’s maths learning.
TT Rock Stars
Times Tables Rock Stars is a series of carefully sequenced activities of daily times tables practice. When it comes to times tables, speed and accuracy are important – the more facts your child remembers, the easier it is for them to complete harder calculations. Times Table Rock Stars is fun and challenging and is designed to help pupils master the times tables.
