Bronte School Games Football Tournament

On Wednesday 27th September, we took part in the Bronte School Games U11 football tournament at Oakbank. The team worked collectively and showed a superb attitude towards both opponents and officials. During the tournament we scored a total of 14 goals in just 6 games and conceded only 3. Sadly, we lost two games against both Long Lee and Steeton, 2-0 & 1-0 respectively but won the remaining four matches against Haworth, Oxenhope, Lees & Merlin Top. Long Lee were the overall winners and we wish them the best of luck in the final.

Oakworth crowned West Yorkshire champions!

Our talented cricket team took their success a step further this afternoon, with an amazing performance at the West Yorkshire Finals at Hunslet.  They won every game in their stage and then went on to win the semi-final and final to be crowned champions of West Yorkshire.  The boys will now go on to represent West Yorkshire in the Yorkshire finals, next Tuesday, where they will take on winning teams from the rest of the county.  You sure are making us proud, boys!

Further cricket success!

Our U11 Cricketers came runners up in the Oakbank cluster and therefore progressed on to represent us in the Bradford Finals.  After some fantastic matches, they were crowned champions of Bradford.  They now progress onto the West Yorkshire Finals which will be held later this month.  Well done to all of the team and I will keep you updated on how they get on.  Good luck!

Year 4 Cricket Superstars!

The Year 4 Panthers and Year 4 Cheetahs enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of cricket at Oakworth Cricket Club.  The Cheetahs came a respectable 5th and the Panthers drew on points with the winners of the competition but unfortunately lost out on runs.  Well done to everyone involved.

Keighley Cougars Rugby Tournament

A few photos from today's competition at Keighley Cougars.  Well done to our Year 5 team who played some quality tag rugby and finished in a fantastic 3rd place.

Tennis Champions

A team of children from Year 4 and Year 5 attended a tennis festival at Ilkley Tennis Club last week.  It was the first time that Oakworth had taken part in this event so we were a little unsure how we would get on.  The team were brilliant and did the school proud, not only in how well they competed but also their super attitude.   At the end of the festival, the Year 5 team finished in a fantastic 2nd place and in the Year 4 competition, Oakworth were crowned champions!  This means that both teams have qualified for the Bradford Summer Games.  Well done team!

Year 3 Curling Festival

Year 3 took part in an exciting new festival organised by SportsCool at Oakbank School.  It was the first time the children had tried Curling but they thoroughly enjoyed it.  Six schools took part and the event was based on a zone basis.  Children were awarded points for placing their stone in the end zone, however if a team mate or opponent hit the stone out of the zone then no points would be awarded.  Oakworth's team worked really hard and had to think tactically about their decision making.  Well done to all the children who took part.

Cross Country Race 4, Wednesday 15th March

It was a beautiful sunny afternoon for the last cross country race of the season at Silsden Park.  It was lovely to see some new runners along with the regular hard core competitors.  A huge congratulations must be given out to Jacob in Year 6, who ran an amazing race, finishing in first position.  It was a fantastic way to finish his cross country running for Oakworth and I wish him and all the other Year 6 runners the best of luck in their future races at secondary school.  Keep up the super running and I'll see you all ready for the cross country season next year.  Remember to put your numbers somewhere safe and make sure that you hand your running vest back in.  If any parents would be interested in sponsoring our running vests, we desperately need a new supply so please come and have a chat with me.  Thanks, Mrs Sells.

Swimming Gala

Our swimmers from Years 3 to 6 had a fantastic night of swimming at the Bingley Swimming Gala held at Shipley Pool last Saturday night.  It was the first time many of our swimmers had swam competitively but the nervous faces soon turned to smiles as the children raced well and did the school proud. The swimmers finished in a respectable 9th place.

Bradford Winter Games

After a hectic week full of fixtures and a fantastic effort in Thursday's tournament the boys showed some signs of fatigue.  After suffering an early goal by Cavendish, the boys pulled themselves up to equalize.  The first game was end to end and finished as a 3-3 draw.  As the tournament continued the boys suffered 2 losses, one to Crossflats and one to Woodside.  They managed to come together for the last game with a fantastic performance to beat Clayton.  The boys tried their hardest and showed some excellent skills.  Louis and Connor  made some excellent saves throughout the tournament, with outstanding goals from George, Paddy, James, Charlie, Robson and Jacob.  A strong foundation of defense saw Jake, Ellis and Jacob battle hard.  Well played boys and excellent sportsmanship was shown throughout.

Cross Country Race 3, Wednesday 15th February

It was a busy and exciting cross country race at Cliffe Castle, with a record number of runners taking part.  The event was also a selection race for the West Yorkshire Games which will take place at Temple Newsam on Wednesday 15th March.   We are still waiting to hear if any of our runners were successful with this selection, so fingers crossed!  Well done to our new runners who we hope are eager to return and compete again in future races.  All results and more photos can be found at  www.keighleyschoolsxc.wordpress.com

Bradford League Trust under 11's Cup 2017

Our U11 Football Team had a fantastic opportunity to represent the school in the Bradford League Trust Cup at Bradford Park Avenue Football Club.  If successful, they would have had the opportunity to play at Wembley!

The boys had an amazing tournament up against some quality teams.  They played five group matches gaining 11 points and were un-defeated in the process.  After such a successful start, the team progressed into the Final where they managed to pull back a 2-0 deficit through two goals from Paddy and Jacob.  It was a nail biting finish to the final as the game went into penalties.  Sadly, the team's valiant effort was not enough and they were eventually defeated as they missed two out of the three penalties.  We were all extremely proud of the attitude and teamwork shown by all of the players.  Well done boys!

Football Superstars!

Our Year 4 boys showed how talented they were on Wednesday in the U9 Football tournament at Oakbank.  They took on some difficult oppositions but through hard work, team work and determination, they managed to succeed.  It was so close that it came down to the final match between Oakworth and St Josephs.  Due to goal difference, only a win was enough for them to be overall winners.  Thankfully, they managed to win 1-0, much to the relief of the parents and teachers who were spectating!  It was a fantastic evening of football and we were extremely proud of the team.  Well done boys and I look forward to the Bradford Summer Games in June, which they have now progressed through to.

Athletics Festival

Last week, a team of talented athletes from Year 6 took part in the annual Athletics Festival at Oakbank.  It was a fast and exciting competition with many closely fought events.  Unfortunately, the team did not qualify for the Bradford Winter Games, however, as you can see from the results below, they did the school proud.

TOP 2 SCHOOLS WILL QUALIFY FOR THE BRADFORD FINALS AT HANSON SCHOOL ON 17 FEBRUARY 2017

Dodgeball report by Jake (Year 4 )

On Wednesday 7th December, 0akworth Primary School took part in a dodge ball tournament at Oakbank School.

The first game they played was against Merlin Top. They were a bit nervous and scared so they lost their match, however some of them played really well. Eddie had an amazing shot at an opponent, to get them out in the first minute!

After that, they played Kildwick with a fantastic come back because they won 7-2. Well done Oakworth!   Theo had an amazing dodge because the ball was coming towards his arm so he moved and consequently it hit his head therefore he wasn’t out.   Another great dodge by Evie was when she used the ball as a shield. I could not believe my eyes at what she had just done!

The third game we played was against Ingrow, where we won 8-3 which meant that we got all of their players out. Harrison was now out because the opponent came up with a great catch that also meant that one of their players could come on. That didn’t matter because we got one of their players out with a great strike by Eddie.

The fourth game Oakworth played was against Oldfield, where we won 6-4 with an amazing piece of play by Oakworth. In the first minute Harrison had already got someone out with an astonishing   throw from a long way.

The next part was the most intense part of the dodgeball competition because this was where the quarter finalists were announced. We were all a bit worried because none of us knew if we would get through even though we won a lot of games. Suddenly, Oakworth began jumping around in excitement as they qualified for the next round as winners of their group.

The next opponent who we were against was Long Lee where unfortunately we lost 4-3. This did not stop our team from playing fantastic. There was fantastic play by Harvey followed by an outstanding dodge by Eddie. I could not believe my eyes when I saw this dodge!

The last and final game we played was against Oldfield again but this time we lost against them. In this game I saw lots of good throws and dodges by Oakworth. A fantastic dodge by Harvey continued by an amazing piece of play by Eddie!

Now it was time to see who had won the trophy for fair play and the competition winner trophy. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up as I was that scared to see who had won the two trophies. The team that won the tournament was Long Lee and the team that won fair play was Oldfield.

0akworth all played really well together and the effort that they put in was also fantastic.   Some of the throws and dodges were amazing. Oakworth came in 4th place in it, but that didn’t put them off at all they still made their school and Mrs Sells proud and did their very best.   Maybe next year they could come in 1st place and win the trophy!

Dodgeball report by Leah (Year 4 )

On Wednesday 7th of December, Oakworth Primary School took part in a dodgeball tournament. Sadly, we did not win overall, but we did claim 3 wins.

In the first game we were against Merlin Top Primary School and lost with only 2 people left. I think we were a bit defensive since we kept hiding at the back.

Fortunately, we won the second game against Kildwick Primary School. We were left with almost a full team! I think we improved a massive amount because we were more interactive with the game.

Dodgeball Festival

Oakworth took part in an exciting and fast paced Dodgeball Festival at Oakbank School.  Our team consisting of Year 3, 4 and 5 played some fantastic dodgeball and made it through to the semi-finals.  Report to follow by Jake and Leah in Year 4.

U11 Football Team Success

Both our U11 football teams have qualified for the finals of the league after successful evenings of football.  The girls will be playing in the finals on the 14th December and the boys will be competing in the new year.  Congratulations to both teams and good luck in the finals!

Cross Country 16th November

It was another muddy afternoon at the second cross country race of the season.  We once again had a record number of runners competing, with a fantastic total of 45 runners!  Well done to all of the children who braved the harsh conditions (some with shoes missing!) and didn't give up.  I was extremely proud of everyone of you!  A particular mention must be given to Jacob in Year 6 who with tremendous guts and determination managed to win his race.  What a super star!

The results are now available to look at online and here are a few photos of the evening.  Please log onto  www.keighleyschoolsxc.wordpress.com to view results from the race.

Cross Country

We had the first cross country race of the season this week, held at Cliffe Castle, where we had a record number of runners competing from Oakworth Primary.  Well done to everyone who took part and to the parents for cheering them on in the muddy conditions.  It was especially nice to see so many new runners who were competing for the first time.  Hopefully, you have got the 'running bug' and I look forward to seeing you all again at the next race on the 16th November at Cliffe Castle.  Please make sure that any running vests are returned, sparkling clean, to school asap.

Please log onto  www.keighleyschoolsxc.wordpress.com to view results from the race, which should be published shortly.  There are four races throughout the Winter running season so it is great to be able to track your progress.  A special well done must be given to our medal winners, who will be presented before half term with their medals.

West Yorkshire school Games

Three of our runners were selected to represent Bradford in the Winter School Games at Beckett Park this weekend.  It was a fantastic achievement to even be selected for such a competition out of so many runners but our runners raised their game and didn’t let it phase them.

Megan  ran in the Year3/4 competition and came a fantastic 14th place, only narrowly missing out on a place to run in the National XC Championships.

Jake  represented the school in the Year 5/6 boys race and came a well earned 21st in a high quality field.

Charlie  ran the race of his life, representing Bradford for Y5/6 boys.  He not only earned a top 10 place to qualify for the West Yorkshire team, to run in the National XC Championships next week at Belvoir castle in Leicestershire….but he actually won the Bronze medal !  What a star!  This is the highest placing anyone at Oakworth Primary has ever achieved and we wish him all the luck next week!

Overall Cross Country Results

It has been a successful season of cross country running from Oakworth Primary once again.  We have seen medal positions, personal bests and many new children taking up the challenge and having a go.  Here are the results of the overall league showing team results (first three runners qualify) and individual results.

Congratulations to the Year 5/6 Boys team who have finished victorious.  They have performed well consistently throughout the season and came first place in the league.  The trophy should be on its way to Oakworth shortly!

In the individual competitions, Charlie  and Megan  have both ran amazingly all year, earning themselves silver positions in their retrospective year groups.  Rebecca  has been up against some tough competition all year, but still managed to claim the bronze medal in the Year 5/6 girls league.

Silsden Cross Country Results

Well done to our first time runners.  Congratulations to the Year 5/6 Boys Team who came first in the team awards with a fantastic second place by Charlie , third place by Jake  and 4th place by Jacob.  Rebecca  also ran a gutsy race to grab herself the bronze medal in the Year 5/6 race.

Silsden Cross Country

Our runners competed in the final cross country race of the year at Silsden Park.  To say it was a muddy affair, would be an understatement! The bravery and determination to finish the course by all of our pupils was amazing.  Many finished with footwear in hands and covered head to toe in mud!   Runners, you should be extremely proud of yourself not just for your super running but the way you all responded to the conditions.  You’re absolute stars and I look forward to seeing you all run again next year.

Bingley Swimming Gala

Our swimmers from Years 3 to 6 had a fantastic night of swimming at the Bingley Swimming Gala held at Shipley Pool last Saturday night.  It was the first time many of our swimmers had swam competitively but the nervous faces soon turned to smiles as the children raced well and did the school proud.

Bradford Football Finals

Well done to our fantastic team of Year 6 boys who played with style and great teamwork.  They were representing the Oakbank cluster against the best schools in the Bradford area.  Although they didn’t come out victorious, they played some extremely good football and had some very close results.  Well done boys, you’ve done Oakworth proud once again!

Athletics Stars in Winter Games

A massive well done to our Year 6 athletics team, who progressed through to the Bradford Winter Games, after fighting off fierce competition from 16 other schools in our area. They were up against the winners from all of the schools in Bradford at the Winter Games held at Bradford University. The competition was tough but the children finished with a magnificent 7th place. Well done to the team who never gave up and competed with the excellent team work and sporting spirit that we love at Oakworth.

Dodgeball Champions!

Our Oakworth children were once again super stars on the sporting field. This time they represented the school in dodgeball, which was the first time this tournament had taken place. It was a huge success and the children, as usual, demonstrated their great competitive spirit, team work and sporting attitude. Well done to all of our dodgeball stars, I was extremely proud of you!
