Governors' Welcome

On behalf of the children and staff, we would like to welcome you to Oakworth Primary School. We hope that you will find our website clear, informative and easy to navigate. It has been designed to give you a flavour of the vibrant life of the school, the work of our wonderful pupils and the quality education that we strive to deliver.  If you would like to know more about the school, you are very welcome to contact the School Office or to come and visit us. The children of Oakworth very much enjoy talking about and sharing their achievements and learning and we will all look forward to meeting you.

Jo Pagdin – Chair of Governors
I am delighted to be involved in the governance of Oakworth Primary and to have been recently elected as Chair of Governors. I have 3 daughters two of which are current pupils at Oakworth Primary and I became a parent governor when my eldest daughter was in Reception, back in 2012. I have attended various governance courses and I am passionate about Oakworth Primary providing the best possible education for each and every child that attends our school. As Chair I endeavour to ensure that the work of the governing body is efficiently and effectively undertaken and is focused at all times enabling all our pupils to achieve their best. On a personal note, I am currently the director of a local recruitment agency, a business that I have been involved in for the last 18 years. Prior to that I have travelled the world whilst working on cruise ships and have been a long standing (and suffering) Bradford City supporter since I was a child!

Trevor Olsson - Vice Chair & Community Governor
Oakworth Primary is a two-form academy converter school and founder member of Bronte Academy Trust. We also have our own sixty place Nursery which ensures that children receive an excellent start to their education. We are very proud that visitors to our school comment positively on the high-quality teaching and learning, caring ethos and outstanding behaviour that they observe. It is the school’s priority to provide a stimulating environment where children grow and develop in safe and supportive surroundings and become equipped with skills for life-long learning. Children at Oakworth are recognised as unique individuals, with specific talents and needs. We promote high standards in all areas and work tirelessly to provide a varied and creative curriculum and memorable school experiences that foster a love of learning and make our classrooms hives of activity and enterprise. As a village school, we also aim to work in close partnership with parents and the local community. We welcome many visitors into school to support and enhance the children’s learning and you will regularly see us out and about in the locality, making full use of the stimulating environment and encouraging pupils to develop their citizenship.

Revd. John Rogers – Partnership Governor
I am very proud of our local school, Oakworth Primary and it’s a real privilege to be a part of such a fantastic team of governors and staff. I was invited to become a Partnership Governor after moving to the village in 2008 when I became the local Vicar. Oakworth Primary is an integral part of our local community and I am proud because that community spirit remains evident throughout the whole school where every child matters. For the majority of my working life I worked in the building trade, so I try hard to not be like what some people imagine a vicar to be. I have a passionate interest in motorbikes, photography and all things technical. And whilst I’m not a member of the Hell’s Angels, you might catch me riding carefully round the village.

James Place - Parent Governor

I lived in Oakworth for eight years before moving to Saltaire in 2017. My daughter is a pupil at Oakworth Primary where she started in nursery.

I have worked within the social housing sector for 13 years. I am currently employed by a national housing association, working between their Burnley and Bradford offices. Since leaving school I have continued my self-development by achieving two Degrees’, one in Housing and another in Business Management as well as a Diploma in Leadership and Management.

This is my first step into the world of governance and it as a fantastic opportunity to influence educational standards. As a parent I have perceived the school to be good at what it is striving to achieve, as a parent governor I now have an opportunity to support these aims. I am excited to be more involved and working within a good team.
